Flashback springs to mind... But as it's not...
You had to collect a General's head in Hunter, but the game was in 3D so
that's not it either...
Brattacas, from Psygnosis ?
Obliterator, from Psygnosis, too ?
Could you give us more details, for instance the main character colors,
and so on ?
