Get hold of a Z Code interpreter.  There are a wealth of superb pieces of
interactive fiction freely available - there's even a competition each
year.  There is also a wide range of development tools to write your own,
as well commercial offerings from the now defunct Infocom - you can buy a
CD with all their text adventures on, including Douglas Adams' excellent
Hitcherhikers and Bureaucracy games.
