Battle for Wesnoth is a free (GPL2.0) game and the executable downloads
are
not part of the official project. The BFW team only releases the game's
source code. Binary executables or applications are always contributed by
community volunteers.

While Alan deserves thanks for troubling to compile it for RISC OS,
crediting him as above is rather misleading.

Similarly Dave Brown deserves credit for ****ting Quake 2 (which is also
GPL), and it would probably have involved more work on his part than
simply
compiling Battle for Wesnoth because he has made use of the IyonixMesa
library (so I gather, from
http://www.drobe.co.uk/riscos/artifact1784.html),
but nominating these two gents for 'best freeware game' is a bit of a
nonsense, in my view, given the sizable development teams who were
/really/
responsible for producing those two games.

Perhaps 'special thanks for ****ting ...' would be a better way of
expressing
appreciation to them? In which case I'd also like to thank 'Caveman'
(cavemansland.blogspot.com) for ****ting Hex-A-Hop and Alan Buckley again
for
PipeNightDreams.
