XP Gaming problems_HELP!!!

by "DarkThunder" <thor1968@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 31, 2003 at 10:16 PM

The game I'm asking about is Interstate 82. The Problem is as follows

Windows XP causes a problem when trying to join a game hosted by another
XP
user.

   1. If someone hosts with Windows 98, XP users can join and continue to
play even if the 98 user leaves.

   2. Windows 98 users can join a XP user hosted game.

   3. Only XP users cannot join an XP user hosted game.

The games as well as about 20 other Activision games use a peer-to-peer
type
of online game system called ANet. I have contacted Activision, and they
will not provide any support on this. The source for the program has even
been made public and is provided freely on the creator's website at
http://www.kegel.com/anet/
. But he says he doesn't know how to make a
work
around, and I'm sure since he isn't getting paid for it, he isn't going to
take the time to learn.

Myself and a couple other gamers that have some background in networks and
programming have been trying to fix this. But other than how XP handles
the
packets being created and sent, there doesn't seem to be any difference in
the operation between Windows 98 and XP on this. Most of us getting to a
point where we are out of our league and could really use some help.

So what I want to know is there some sort of fix or way to work around
this
problem? Even the kind of information that would have to be added in a
programming sense would be really helpful.
