Leave well enough alone IMO.  We had a single newsgroup once, and IIRC 
you were a main force in splitting it up!  Why insist on endless churn?

I'd suggest that those concerned about traffic all crosspost to .misc, 
and if that becomes the single de facto newsgroup, so be it.

There's not much spam, and with a proper newsreader multiple groups are 
quite convenient.
