product trademarks in games

by bpj1138@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Oct 16, 2005 at 09:47 AM

Hi,

I have a question concerning putting real world products into my
games, specificly, I've taken up converting car blueprints into game
models. In the past, I noticed developers creating ficticious names
for real world products, presumibly to avoid trademark infringement,
although as far as I understand it, it's only illegal to use somebody's
trademark as your own, as in bootleg products. For example, you can't
make a car and call it "Ford". My question is, what are the legalities
of using real world product names in my games? Do I have to license
these products? Is it enough to credit the manufacturers, as in
"Product X is a trademark of company Y"?
