My gut reaction was: I want armor, and a big red gem on my shield.

That's not actually as rude a response as you might think. Dressing
up the same old casual games mechanics in various ways is how most of
'em try to distinguish themselves, and sometimes it's effective. I
think I want more than "bling" though. Like, all these words should
go into pinball-style bonuses. The bonuses should construct a
teetering tottering RPG iron knight deathbot. When the bonuses reach
a certain level, my bot whacks the living shit out of the opponents'
bots. It should be really brutal and humiliating, like the poor
hapless sap is still trying to screw his helmet on and my robot just
walks up, swings a gigantic mace, and knocks a home run with his head.

I think that would please a hardcore gamer demographic. Different art
rituals for other demographics. You could try to get into the animal
porn market, like implement cute fluffy penguins having sex with each
other. Sorry, that's probably the depraved hardcore gamer market
again. You get my point: I don't care about word games. You're gonna
have to make me feel like I'm playing something else, to get me
involved with it.

Cheers,
