If you spend a few hours searching the web for public domain sound
effects, you'll actually scrape together a pretty good library to work
with. It just takes some patience since sites come and go and many of
them will only offer a handful that you might want.
Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet/one stop site that you can go
to.
