Hi,
I'm currently trying to learn music macro language (MML) to compose music
for the 8 bit Nintendo. I've read some tutorials and tried out a couple of
things and it seems I'm familiar with most of the Nintendo specific stuff.
However, I'd like to have something more in-depth and formal on the MML
language itself, as I feel the English tutorials on the Web cover only the
basics. Does anyone know where to get more info on MML: specifications,
references, tutorials, formal syntax and so on? I've tried Googling the
Web
for information but the problem is that most MML pages are in Japanese as
Japan is the country in which the language originated.
On a side note, I've got some programming background and find MML pretty
easy and intuitive to work with. Default note length settings and relative
octave changes make it a breeze to input note data real fast, it's easier
and more fun than using the piano roll let alone the staff view in a
sequencer. And the musical possibilities surpass the average MIDI
sequencer
with channel specific tempos, note specific macros, "n:thlets" and chaning
of the dot operator, fine control over gate time and so on. MML even
supports loops, though they cannot be nested unfortunately, not to mention
custom arpeggios, envelopes and LFO macos.
Oh yes and copying and pasting is accomplished in the text editor directly
and many finer fixes can be done as regular expression find and replace
operations. Highly cool overall.
