5 years younger than me.

It's fun.

Same trouble here. The mouse is unbeatable for fine adjustments. For
movement arrow keys are consistent no matter your orientation. Arrow
keys for large movements refined by the mouse made Wolfenstein 3D, Doom
and Doom II a joy to play. Not to mention console controllers are too
small for my hands.
USB keyboard? Maybe USB mouse?
Time and practice will help.
For shooting auto-aiming helps. Pay attention to what reviews say
about a game's auto-aim. Learn the quirks of the game, especially the
terrain. Ghosthunter has a lot of safe places to fight from.
Weapons with unlimited ammunition mean you can make up for poor aim
with a high rate of fire (Ghosthunter, Monster House). This even works
in PC games with the mouse, e.g. Shadowman.
Play in easy mode (Silent Hill). Run away when you can (Silent Hill,
Flushed Away, Ghosthunter).
Most games have some sort of trick to help. Flushed Away uses R3 to
align the camera. Monster House has limited autoaim. Ghosthunter has
stealth movement to slow down gameplay and a sniper scope to zoom in for
fine aiming. Learn what weapons to use when. See what switching modes
can do for you. (i.e. Play smarter.)
Strafing movement can be used to fine-tune positioning and aiming as
well.
As a last resort move like you're driving a boat. If you're not lined
up correctly it's frequently easier to just move on through and come
around for another try.
