Convergence:
Capsule: Zakharov is in love with Deirdre. Love-love-love-love.
Love I tell you! And Miriam hates Zakharov.
Comment: Zak doesn't really seem to be himself.
Skye Dreams:
Capsule: Deirdre does a little lecturing, feels depressed that the
Hive kicked her ass and then gets nagged by Planet because she
isn't accomplishing anything.
Comment: A boring way to start a story that hasn't gone anywhere.
The Scourging of Planet: The GaianAXIS War
Capsule: The Gaians are slaughtered by a player-made faction which
hates aliens and AIs and humans who get chummy with aliens and AIs.
Comments: Not much of a story because the author didn't put the work
in, but an interesting faction. Is it even possible for a faction to
be incapable of getting Secrets of the Human Brain, though?
only two would leave that day
Capsule: Marr's fleet is lured into a trap by H'minee, leaving them
both down to one ship.
Comments: Inconsequential. Interesting though that the author
reversed the standard picture of events by having Marr pursue H'minee
to Planet rather than vice versa.
Unity Unbound
Capsule: The buildup toward the Unity mutiny as seen through the eyes
of teenagers born to crew members during the voyage while the
passengers were still in cryosleep.
Comments: Another fan fiction author who can't seem to get Miriam
right. She may be a religious nut, or at least the inspirer of
religious nuts, but she should be almost as insidiously persuasive as
Yang. Remember, she's the _psych_ chaplain.
The Remaining Sunlight
Capsule: An agreement in council to "double the business rates" (ie.
the triggers a massive drone uprising, creating the Free Drone faction
and giving Aki Zeta 5 a diversion she uses to break away.
Comments: At least this one's longer than half a page. A good try
all in all, although the author seems to be a bit confused about what
the Global Trade Pact is, and depicts all the faction leaders as far
too inept to be believable in their leadership roles.
Control Alpha Centauri
Capsule: Dierdre, Santiago and Lal are all being manipulated by their
indispensible right hand assistants who appear to be Mary Sues
representing the players in a multiplayer game.
Comments: Incoherent. Labelled a parody but isn't at all funny.
Peaceful Revolutions
Capsule: Zakharov must struggle with politics, including the sinister
Deirdre and her genocidal Gaians, with only his computer generated
imaginary friend to keep his spirits up.
Comments: The author has been watching too much Star Trek, or maybe
Red Dwarf. Holograms can't give people backrubs! A lot of things
about this story would have worked a lot better with a little
application of virtual reality. There's also something distinctly
screwy about Deirdre's agenda being the abolition of the Planetary
Charter. But hey, at least this is one fanfiction author who can
write at length and finish a story.
