Jerking footsteps in the game - too real to care?

by count zero <countzero1942@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 3, 2007 at 04:29 AM

I finally got a setup that can play Doom 3 "the way its meant to be
played".

And even though the game is a little old its still pretty amazing to
play at 1280/4xAA with steady 60 FPS and the lights turned off. (I get
150 FPS on demo1)

But I think they are trying to make it too real with all the jerking
footstep emulation when you strafe and what not...

Usually you can tell if you are getting a steady 60 FPS by strafing
and look for stuttering. But this game engine seems to have stuttering
built in to it...

Personally I would rather glide around with no stuttering whether its
"real" or not.

Who knows what it really looks like running down a hallway with a gun
shooting incarnate demons... Evolutionary psychologists would probably
say you would be too focused on your opponent to be aware of your
footsteps... ;)

BTW, I can't wait until Carmack comes up with his next game engine and
I'll go right back to 40 FPS with no AA at 640x480... :(
