I am looking at purchasing my first set of dominos. I am a middle
school mathematics teacher and am thinking about buying sets of Giant
dominos for use in my classroom (or outside). I can find Giant dominos
sets of double sixes (28 dominos in a set). I am guessing the size of
these dominos to be about 18 to 20 inches long and 7 to 9 inches wide.
Since there are 25 to 30 students in my class, I need to purchase
several sets.
I am not familiar with dominos so I would like your suggestions as to
how many sets to purchase for my classroom. I am considering purchasing
one set for every 4 students (therefore 7 or 8 sets for the class).
Can I combine sets of double sixes together so more students can be
involved in a single game?
I am looking for suggested domino games to play with an entire class or
with groups of four students (or any other size of student groups). I
believe partner games or team competitions might interest the students.
As a teacher I am looking for activities emphasizing strategies (for
individuals, partners or team members) to sharpen thinking skills.
Is there a good book on this topic that I should purchase?
Your suggestions and comments are welcome.
