    There are many copies of D1+D2 on ebay for a few dollars.  You still 
need the retail disks since they have the artwork and level files.  The 
actual .exe has been rewritten by the fan base to run on today's machines.

There are more than one of these re-compilation projects.

Both should play D1 as well as D2, you can try them both.  Dual-core
issues 
are usually solved by disabling the 2nd core with a utility, or setting
the 
'cpu affinity' with task manager.
