Hello...
I've created a Linux installation of Descent 3 from my windows
installation
using the files and instructions here:
http://www.radnimax.com/ftp/descent3/D3-linux-files.tar.gz
I'm having some issues running it under Ubuntu. The frame rate is weak,
but
not so weak as to indicate that my Nvidia drivers aren't working. GLXGears
also runs, which also would seem to indicate that the drivers are working.
Frame rates in the game are in the 40s where they would be in the 70s
under
other Linux distributions like PCLinuxOS. Also, another issue/possible
clue
is that the game needs to be run as sudo under Ubuntu in order to detect
my
stick, where the stick is detected when running as a normal user under the
other distributions. The stick also works in Planet Penguin Racer running
as
a normal user.
I've tried running it under several varieties of Ubuntu: Ubuntu 6.06
64-bit,
Ubuntu 6.06 32-bit, Kubuntu 6.06 64-bit, and Xubuntu 6.06 32-bit. All give
the same results.
I've also tried removing the descent.dynamic file in order to force the
game
to run statically linked binaries.
Anyone ever run into these sorts of issues in this or any other
similar-vintage game, or otherwise have any ideas on fixing this? Thanks.
