I realize these are all kinda¹ oldish games, but these bugs are
absolutely mind numbing, especially the D3 one.
First off, if I try to run Summoner or Red Faction above 640·480,
whether in 800·600 or 1024·768, the game quits on launch and dumps me
back in the Finder. I've tried all of the settings and none of them seem
to have any effect, but RF runs fine at these resolutions on my
brother's computer.
Also in regards to Summoner, whenever Summoner plays a cutscene, the
audio slowly goes out of synchronization with the onscreen action, and
then cutscenes always end a few seconds before they're supposed to (even
before the entirety of the audio is through playing, and even during the
narrated slideshow-ish chapter dividers. This didn't use to happen on my
last machine (a ³Quicksilver 2002² 733Mhz G4.)
In Descent 3, attempting to play online with PXO doesn't seem to do
anything; as running the game, selecting a pilot, clicking on the
³Multiplayer² button (thus summoning the multiplayer dialog), and double
clicking on the ³Parellax Online² or ³TCP/IP² items or selecting either
and clicking ³OK² results in nothing but the multiplayer dialog
vanishing and leaving me at the main menu. The single player part works
beautifully though.
I'm running version 1.30 of Summoner, 1.42 (OpenGL) of Descent 3, and
1.2 of Red Faction. My machine is a 1.25Ghz Power Mac G4 booted under OS
9.2.2 with 1.25GB of RAM and a GeForce 4Ti with 128MB VRAM. Also, has
anyone heard anything about what happened to the enhanced/OS X port of
Descent 3 that Duane Johnson was working on? Thanks for any help.
