<agd-f>Dark Forces demo won't run in XP -- how about the full game?

Not sure there's anyone still here, but...

I recently picked up 'Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight'. Liked it so much I want

to play the original DF. However, I've got a fairly new computer running 
Windows XP. According to some old posts I found, Dark Forces is supposed
to 
run 'out of the box' with XP. But I tried the demo, and couldn't get it to

run at all (including with VDM sound). Am I likely to get the same story 
with the full game?
