The same advice I've already given goes. Play a straight melee or a
straight forward caster until you learn more about the game. Don't
play a hybrid, stealther or sup****t class for now.

Ok, here goes, deep breath.....

My suggestions would be:

Hibernia
----------

Hibernia Melee - Hero or Blademaster.

Hero = pure tank, can wield a spear as well as blade and blunt.

Blademaster = light tank with high DPS (damage per second) can dual
wield (use two weapons at once- Celtic Dual) so nice slice and dice..
Blades or blunt but no spear.

Easiest to start would be Hero. Blademaster is only slightly more
complex due to Celtic Dual.

Hibernia Casting - Eldritch, Enchanter or Mentalist.

Eldritch = pure DPS caster.
Enchanter = Pet caster.
Mentalist = Flexible caster, role dependent on spec.

Eldritch is pure DPS caster, straight forward to play but still fun
both PvE and RvR.

Enchanter is slightly more complex, fun to play and is Hibs PvE god
(along with the new Vampiir) when specced for it.

Don't play a Vampiir (hybrid) to start with as a main, my current
toon, although some folks will tell you that they are easy and very
overpowered.

They *are* OP'ed to start with in the battlegrounds but are not OP'ed
in big boy RvR. They are a hard class to play well in big boy RvR if
you want to group because you will not easily get a group unless you
split spec in Vampiiric Embrace, spec Dementia or tri-spec. A
dementia, or tri-specced Vampiir is not easy to play for a newbie with
no hybrid experience.

A Shadow Mastery specced Vamp, however, is Hbs PvE god now along with
the Enchanter, is the fastest to level solo class and is a fairly easy
to play hybrid PvE, and solo RvR mainly as a stealther killer.

Also folks will hate you because Vamps are FOTM (flavour of the month)
in Hibernia, like Warlocks in Midgard, and a lot of folks are still
fairly ignorant of how a Vampiir can play RvR when specced for it.
They think all Vamps are Shadow Mastery specced claw spammers, which
most are, but not all.

Midgard
----------

Midgard melee - Warrior or Berserker.

Warrior = pure tank (see Hero), cannot use spear however as that is
Hibernian Hero only.

Berserker = High DPS light tank (see Blademaster) that can dual wield
(Left Axe)

Either would be fine as a newbie.

Midgard caster = Runemaster, Spiritmaster, Bonedancer, Warlock.

Runemaster = pure DPS caster (see Eldritch)
Spiritmaster = pet caster (see Enchanter)
Bonedancer = unique multi-pet caster.
Warlock = insanely high DPS caster.

I would suggest Runemaster, Warlock or Spiritmaster.

Runemaster = most straight forward to play for a newbie.

Spiritmaster = spec dependent, so more complex for a newbie.

Warlock = new Midgard FOTM class. Most folks agree they are OPed,
sensible Middies as well. You will be hated by other realms and taken
down quick in RvR and they know what class you are because of the
chambers floating over your head :). I can't say how they play because
I haven't tried, I just enjoy killing 'em when I see 'em. I also get
killed by them a lot :(.

Bonedancer = I wouldn't recommend for a complete newbie although I
haven't played one so don't really know. A very good PvE farming and
solo class. Considered Op'ed, and still disliked, by many in the other
two realms.

Keep in mind that I give these suggestions solely from my experience:

a) I play mainly hybrids, some light tanks and some sup****t.
b) I don't play casters, only one to max level (Enchanter) PvE.
c) I have only played one pure tank to max level (Armsman).
d) I have only just returned to DAoC recently after a *long* time away
(left because of ToA) and a *lot* has changed.
e) This is a basic guide for a complete newbie, deep class advice is
very spec dependent in DAoC.

Given these facts others may disagree with the above and have
different input, or have far better and more in-depth advice to give
than I.

have a look at http://daoc.catacombs.com/classlist.cfm.

Phew, long post. Time to play a bit now :).

No hurry. We can try it whenever you have time.

BB.
