Hi Mal,
Well *honestly*, as I previously stated in the initial thread, I
reopened my UK accounts in order to check that I hadn't been harsh or
misjudged things. I've posted already what *I* found when logging in
at peak UK hours, including weekends, and other random times. I just
didn't see these bustling newbie areas and I did check the Catacombs
areas and lower battlegrounds as well. The classics, apart from Ector,
are teaming with life in the newbie areas though at most times of day.
I just call it as I see it. It is possible however that I somehow
missed all these newbies.
My main points, leaving aside any other issues, are these:
As I've said already, given that DAoC slowly leaks pop over the next
two years which will last longer and remain viable, servers that cater
for The USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand or the ones that cater
for mainly the UK? What's the best bet for longevity for someone
starting DAoC as their first ever MMORPG from scratch? And also
because the OP is completely new to MMORPGs IMHO the classics are the
place to start.
He also has the option on DAoC US of joining a standard rule set
cluster, a role playing cluster or even Gaheris or Mordred should he
wish to when he is familiar with the game. The choice is there! It's
not with GOA. Heck to play all three realms he'd need two accounts,
and more when he needs a bot. Mythic will have the 'Home invasion'
server too if it does get done, and even perhaps the 'evolution' and
'Pure RvR' servers as well.
I know many Scandinavians play on the UK servers, but it still comes
down to sheer weight of numbers IMO. The USA + Canada + Australia +
New Zealand + Worldwide English speaking others, compared with The UK
+ mainly Scandinavia. Mythic *must* keep DAoC US going until
Warhammer is out. It's their main source of revenue, hugely more so
than the GOA license. Which would you bet on being shut down last?
Also opinions on VN Boards and other DAoc and MMORPG monitoring sites
and blogs I check are that DAoC US is actually growing again whereas
DAoC GOA is still leaking.
Anyway I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one, no
point in thra****ng it around any further. The main thing is that we
all enjoy it wherever we are, and the OP will enjoy himself where he
is if he takes to DAoC, as I hope he will. It's still the best of the
crop. It's good also that we have some traffic in this group again :).
BB.
