As mentioned before I don't level - every one of mine is started from
scratch. Guess I'm a masochist :-D

Well as I said excalibur has a decent population and there's usually
people wandering around the aqueducts to group with and although the
interesting bit will be later, but it will be there :)

English language servers aren't british servers, there are heck of a lot
of non-Brits playing on Excalibur.

It wasn't meant as an example of what he'd be encountering when he
joined the game - but does show that there are quite a few people still
playing the game and enjoying it.

It won't be 4 patches though - we're being upgraded to 1.78 tomorrow.

Prydwen was unfortunate, but Excalibur has been pretty stable for quite
a while now. Not experienced much downtime. Never made use of Herald or
Chronicles so can't say :)

I've had very quick responses to problems posted on the RightNow sup****t
system.

True, however you don't recommend purely based on what it's like at the
start - otherwise I'd be advising others to play WoW ;-)

I actually knew as many players who left because of New Frontiers rather
than ToA.

I'm not trumpetting HI over Classic - just saying that for some reason
the majority of players on GOAs servers aren't that interested in
Classic, in fact recent polls show more interest in Mythic sorting out
class balance than anything else.

As for bots, I seem to recall a lot of players towing enhance clerics
behind them on the Classic Servers.

My main point is that levelling from 1 is a far from solitary business
on Exalibur. There are Albion, Excalibur guilds actively looking for new
members including newbies (not just fully ToA'd ones) and providing them
with assistance to get going (and i don't mean PLing). I've seen plenty
of new-to-DAOC sub-20s down in the Roman Aqueducts too and as I'm
usually down there I spend a heck of a lot of time grouped with them and
take them on sightseeing tours of Salisbury Plains too ;-)
