Hang in there, you'll get the hang of it. First time in a MMORPG is a
tad confusing. Even WoW, which is the most newbie friendly MMORPG by
far takes novices a while to get their heads around.

Nope, these are just routine patches/upgrades, done since the trial
file was made available. The ones I was on about are separate files
downloaded manually from Mythic, not via the game client. Don't worry
about them at the moment as they are not essential to get going.

Aye, keen, that's good :).

Right. Firstly I'm not that familiar with Albion lately as my Albion
toons have been retired for quite a while. I mainly play Hibernia and
Midgard these days. I know that the Hibernia and Midgard newbie quests
work as I've done them recently. Albion I haven't done much, and I
know how to level so quickly the Albion new characters I've started
just bypassed the newbie quests. Make sure you read all the text when
you talk to a NPC carefully as it's easy to miss small details.
Likewise read your journal carefully.

Good :).

Right, the guard points in the wrong direction, forget that. If I
remember correctly Farma Hornly is in a building which is best found
by following the journal entry. It's one of the buildings in the
starter town. This one bugged me for ages too.

Only certain guards give directions, usually named I think, and they
are sometimes a bit confused themselves.

I understand. The Farma Hornly quest is the most annoying newbie quest
I've tried in any of the realms. It's a bit of a bugger. I'm pretty
certain he's in one of the buildings on the town side of the river,
not on the Camelot side where the retarded guard points to. I'll check
it out when I log on a bit later.

Don't worry Farma Hornly is a pain. Also you can just ignore that
quest and level up on monsters nearby, it won't take you long. Once
you are level 5 and chose a class your trainer will clear your journal
of any old quests for you.

Just a guess here, but every MMORPG trial I have played asks you for
your CC details and you have to cancel before the end of the trial
otherwise they bill you. Sometimes though they just want your CC
details to validate your identity. I'm not sure with DAoC, it should
tell you on the site you downloaded the trial from.
If you tell me what server you are on, your character name and the
times when you will usually be playing I'll meet you and show you
around? I might have to roll a newbie myself but I'll play a sup****t
class, and we will get you to 5 in no time. In the meantime I'll check
for that dratted Farma Hornly and post here later on his whereabouts
:).
If you are playing the classic servers as I suggested I hope you are
on Ector as I am Hibernia on Gareth and Midgard on Lamorak?
If you start Hib/Gareth I can get you sorted out with some weapons,
armour and enough cash to last you a good while :). Shameful attempt
to get you to play Hib I know, but as a Scot I must sup****t the Celtic
races. I can also help you out Midgard Lamorak. If you must play
Albion on Gareth or Lamorak I'll see if I can log in on a friends
account, he's a nasty Alb diehard, and get you through the newbie
stages.
It's really worth sticking with as when you get to level 5 and chose
your class you'll be able to group, do the low level battlegrounds and
experience a little of what Realm v Realm is like and that is where
the big fun is. Once you have the hang of the basics you'll level
quickly. Unfortunately the Catacombs expansion has the most goodies
for newbies, but you have to commit to the game and buy it first :(.
BB.
