So...

slow complains that it isn't installed. Does it need to go in the 
autoexec or config.sys (as a TSR presumably)?

moslo and turbo both allow me to move backwards easily (and climb), but 
turbo gets very jerky at low % and with moslo one touch of INS or DEL 
takes me to the maximum extent of looking up or down even at 1%
