Have you changed drivers?
Win95 only did .vxd drivers, so PCIxxx cards also automatically
installed the dos drivers for the card.
Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Sound Video and Game Controllers
If you have "Legacy Sound device" or something to that effect, you have
the dos drivers installed.
The other type of sound driver (.wdm) used in 2k/XP and sometime in
win98 systems has no Dos driver at all.
As for the Ensoniq issue, Creative bought Ensoniq and a fair number of
the PCIxxx cards are actually Ensoniq chipsets.
This is one of the reasons there's 4 or so different cards/chipsets all
called SB PCI-128.
