[ESDB] AGM/AGES/AGD Elder Scrolls FAQ Engine Now ONLINE - Volunteers Needed!

by John Henry <jhd@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 22, 2004 at 06:36 AM

Okay, everyone, I've finally done what I said I would do. The
alt.games.morrowind/alt.games.elder-scrolls/alt.games.daggerfall Game FAQ
engine - which I have christened the Elder Scrolls Data Base (ESDB) is
now online.

I am currently testing the engine and all seems to be working well at the
moment, although navigation is still under-developed.

Everyone who previously offered to help, or anyone else who wants to
help, is welcome to go to this URL:

http://www.lowgenius.com/games/mwind/faq/

There, you'll find the page which will, eventually, be the front page of
the FAQ (as you can probably guess). On that page, along with other
information, will be a link to the registration and login pages.

Register, Log In, read the Contributor's Home Page, and start writin'!
Remember, this isn't JUST about Morrowind, it's an online database of all
the information we can gather about the entire Elder Scrolls world - if
you're an ace at Arena, we need your assistance! If you're dangerous at
Daggerfall, dig in!

(Stop me before I alliterate again...)

PLEASE be sure to read the FAQ Engine ReadMe (linked from the
contributor's home page) before you start adding things; there is
important information there.

Navigation currently leaves a lot to be desired - you may have to use the
'back' button on your browser to get where you want to go. If all else
fails, you can go back to the URL above, log in again, and start over
from the Contributor's Home Page.

I'll be tweaking the contributor's area over the next few days at time
allows; please bear with me, I don't have the kind of time I'd like to
have to get this thing running. It is 100% functional, if a little
clunky, as of this moment.

I have NOT put links to the user-side of the ESDB into the main menu at
lowgenius.com yet, and I won't for at least a few days, to give y'all
time to add a few things. You can find links to the user-side pages at
the address above, but until the database gets some information in it,
you may find yourself getting ADODB errors when you try to access them.

I have seeded the database with some basic topics and one 'article'
(actually a couple of sentences). If you want to see how things will
look in the final analysis, use the Table of Contents link at the page
above, select 'Game Play' under the 'Morrowind' heading, and then click
the (only) link, 'What is the goal of Morrowind?' to be taken to the
sample article.

I have to get some sleep, as I have a tremendously busy day tomorrow
(it's been a really busy couple of weeks for me), but I'll try to poke my
head in a few times throughout the day to see if there are any questions.

There are links all over the place both within the ESDB pages and other
places includng the navigation menu at lowgenius.com if you need to e-
mail me.

Thanks again to all the current and future volunteers; I look forward to
learning from your contributions!

One final note, because I don't think I covered it yet on the
registration page: Your registration e-mail WILL NOT BE DISPLAYED OR
HANDED OUT TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON, BUT IT MUST BE VALID IN ORDER TO
RETRIEVE A LOST PASSWORD. The other registration information - first and
last name, home page, and bio will eventually be displayed. Currently
the article view shows your ESDB username as the contributor, but this
WILL CHANGE to show your First and Last Name instead...I just don't feel
like screwing with it tonight.
