I've taken to playing Creatures 2 again in the last few days, thanks to
nornagon, who has somehow managed to persuade me to reverse-engineer the
world (SFC) file format with the intention of making C2 work under openc2e
(so us poor Mac and Linux users can play it). That is going quite well,
but I'm sure no-one here wants to know about the trials of trying to work
out what everything in a binary blob means, so let me get back to my
point..
It's so much fun! I'd forgotten how adorably cute the creatures are, and
how beautiful everything is, and I've been ru****ng around getting COBs
(hooray for the Underground Sweepers - it's nice to know that CL had
trouble with things falling through floors, too). Anyone have any
recommendations? I've long since forgotten about everything I used to use
... it's been so long since I last played C2.
Creatures 3 and Docking Station really sucked a lot of fun out of the game
- with the metarooms, the stupid long-living creatures, the horrible UI,
the ugly creatures, etc. Creatures 1 is fun too, but it seems .. primitive
... compared to C2 :)
So far I've managed to avoid too many crashes, but it really is a terribly
crash-happy game. :) It took a bit of effort to install the original game
(as opposed to The Albian Years, which I have, but which is even buggier)
onto my Windows 2000, but it worked out fine once I persuaded the
installer to work.
So, here ends my babbling. Anyone else been doing much Creatures-y
recently? It's nice to see the JNCOBOY thread is still alive, but I
daren't try delving into it. I shall try to keep up-to-date with agc, but
a lot of the time I'm not on my home connection, so I'll have to work out
some solution for when I'm living elsewhere, without having to use the
evil which is Google Groups.
