Its pretty easy to win, with any faction. Although, it depends on your
expertise with the game. Its better to play one of the Roman factions
in the beginning to find your feet with the game.

Bribing depends on what difficulty you are playing on. Try Easy for
starters. Easy to Moderate, the family members you bribe don't
usually, if ever, turn back. They may not have an excellent loyalty
rating, but some of the best guys I have had were bribed members of
other factions. And they defended against multiple intruders,
sometimes for half a century without ever causing trouble.
On the Hard and Very Hard settings, things go wrong much more. But
really, you should play with Easy and work your way to Moderate first.
Hard and VH are nightmares the first time you play them.

When you discover the game more, you'll find that some factions aren't
as developed as others. Like, the Romans and Egyptians and Greeks,
they have very well developed civilizations which can be upgraded even
when they cross the 24,000 population level. But Barbarian factions
like the Britons or Germania...their cities max out of upgrade levels
at 12,000 or something. Some even less than that. And they don't have
as many unit varieties as some of the well developed civilizations.
No upgrades for cities means more chances of the city revolting, etc.

But its not that difficult to beat the game, even with a lower civ. I
remember, one of the most fun games I have had with RTW was in the
Briton campaign. Their Woad warriors are really good :) And so are the
Swordsmen. And the chariots...simply fantastic. Oh..and headhurlers.
Headhurlers own. They are terrific if you play them well, but turn out
a bit problematic in the end game.
Brits are pretty easy too, as they are stronger than most of the
barbarians which surround them.

I remember once beating an army of a 1000 Romans with not more than
300 Britons in my city. I was defending and had light chariots
(archers chariots), a few woads and 1-2 swordsmen. With such heavy
odds against you, you have to be quick with the mouse and the camera
angles, but by careful maneauvering on the battlefield, I managed to
kill off 75% of the Romans and make the rest of them break and run.

It's so much fun when you face greater numbers, because that's where
the challenge comes in. And thinking up all the strategies and the
maneauvers on the battlefield, it always gives me quite a rush :) I
love it! To successfully maneauver your units and get a victory,
specially in a tough battle, is one of the most satisfying moments in
a game you can get.

In some of the tougher battles, sometimes I've been left with around
100 men or so, when armies of 1500 or something collided with each
other. But it does give you immense satisfaction, the thrill of the
win.
On the campaign, usually I like to have the numbers on my side though,
because its nice to have units left in your army after a battle. But
sometimes you get stuck in a difficult situation.

Oh, another thing about bribing. If you are Roman and bribe a Roman
army, the units in that army will also convert to your side. Any units
which are similar to your units convert to your side. The units which
are not similar to your units (usually of different factions), they
get disbanded...which can also be a huge help.

About family members, go beserk! I usually tend to bribe just about
whoever I meet, as long as I have a little extra money. If you can't
spare the cash though, don't bribe at all. Manage your family members
and always choose a good Faction Heir. Check out your family tree and
see who is the youngest and the most promising looking guy.
