Wizardry Gold/7 question

Is there a time limit for rescuing Vi Dominae?  Or does Wizardry Gold not 
work properly on the latest computers?

I picked up a cheap copy of Wizardry Gold a little while back.  Spent a
few 
hours smashing up the Ukpr store making invincible faerie ninjas. 
Sauntered 
back to New City, entered the Forbidden Zone.
a) The comm link doesn't appear to work.  I can't get the "@[EMAIL PROTECTED]
" character! 
It 
always comes out as "'@[EMAIL PROTECTED]
"
b) No trace of Vi Dominae.

I feel ashamed at being stuck at such an old game but I need release!
