I mostly played them on my C=64. But by the last few games the C=64 had
kinda died out so I ended up going through both the Dragonlance and
Forgotten Realms series again just so I would have an experienced party
to take into the last game. Even though you could start 'fresh', I
found it extremely difficult to get a foot hold in the later games with
anything but a group of characters that you had taken through the
previous games in the series.

As far as which is best, I've played the Gold Box series on the C=64,
The Amiga and the PC. Each system has its ups and downs. The PC version
has terrible sound (PC Speaker Beeps only) on the first few games but
the fact that all the games were hard drive installable (even if you
had to use some trickery) made it probably the easiest version to play
as far as convience factor. The C=64 obviously played off disk and
could take an eternity. Pool of Radiance was I think 4 double sided
disks. I didn't have a HD for my Amiga and even though the Amiga
version looks the best (especially the earlier games) playing off the
3.5in disks was dreadfully slow.

Also, the C=64 never got games like Dark Queen of Krynn or Pools of
Darkness which leaves you hanging.
