I build a 'sacrifice' city as quickly as I can just for the purpose of
building workers and settlers. I find the faster I get up more cities
and the faster I build workers, the faster I grow in all other areas.
I also create a central 'sacrifice' city for building troops to defend
the country or to attack enemies.
* By 'sacrifice', I am referring to using the city exclusively for
that purpose, rather than build other non-relevant buildings in them.
I often change them around by using one city for a while and then
later building a new city and using it. I revert the first
'sacrifice' city to normal building mode.
Of course, if I am not careful, I find myself with so many units to
sup****t that I can't build up cash reserves....
