I did manage to get to Alpha Centauri in 2027 or thereabouts. I was then
told that my leader****p skills were similar to those of Neville
Chamberlain,
which has happened before to me on wins in Noble level, but even so, it
was
one of the most entertaining games I have played. In my opinion, Shaka is
almost as mad as Isabella and Montezuma.

Alexander is another nutcase. Then there is Catherine, who is not mad but
competely unprincipled; she can be "friendly" and yet attack you put of
the
blue. Even Izzy and Monte have some standards. She is pretty stunning,
though (unlike the historical Catherine); in the first game where I met
her,
I was so hypnotized by her looks and that music that I gave her everythng,
and yet she betrayed me. (SOB!)

That sounds daunting. I enjoy limited periods of warfare but not fights
that
go on forever. Since I am a builder, I like barbarians because they are my
best shot at getting a unit promoted enough for me to be entitled to build
the Heroic Epic. Of course, if you start as the same continent as Genghis
Khan, Napoleon or Shaka, they'll see to it that you get your promoted
unit,
even if they exterminate you in the process. (Occasionally, Alexander can
be
handled, if one shares the same religion, builds a lot of garrison troops
and finds a common enemy. Setting Alex and izzy at each other's throats is
one of ym fondest dreams.)
