Vanilla Civ4 smartmap monarch, now 1850 a.d.

by Artemus Clyde Frog <mad@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 16, 2008 at 10:10 PM

Lots of trees, light jungle, lots of hills, no peaks.
Extra grass for the cottagers. Fifty percent ocean.

Only victory conditions enabled are conquest and cultural.
Elizabeth, Napolean and Roosevelt are the only leaders on
a smartmap huge map. The exploration phase went on until
the barbs started with the archers. Circumnavigated with
a galley, and a workboat backed up by another galley.

I got pyramids, Roosevelt got the oracle. I got the
great lighthouse and the collosus. Roosevelt got the
parthenon. Napolean and I are on opposite ends of a
huge continent, made up of five great peninsulas joined
by isthmuses. I pass one of Roosevelt's galleys shortly
after finding napolean's capitol. Founded hinduism, so
I passed it on to nappy, along with a missionary on the
eastbound galley to make it stick. Roosevelt doesn't
like my lap-dog, or my religion. I finally find his
capitol on an island which isn't quit big enough
for him to circumnavigate before he gets a caravel.
Must've been his northbound galley that my east
bound galley passed on its mission to drop off the
missionary and explore the wider world. After
running away from the first archer he saw, my
last scout signalled the westbound galley as
it came into the straits of the second of the
five subcontinents in the northern hemisphere.

After that, a pattern developed which saw me
sending settlers east, and every military unit
my capital could produce westwards to fight
off the steady rain of barbarians headed in
the general direction of London. Only one
or two barbs from the rest of my subcontinent.
Maybe because there just wasn't that much
food up there. I got the hagia sophia,
Roosevelt got the spiral minerat and versailles.
Napolean got another of my missionaries.

The battle with the barbs to my west ended
when I had two of their settlements, and a
knight acting like a cork in a bottle. Not
long after that, another knight corked the
isthmus to my southwest. This left most of
my army free to take on the barbs of the
large island to my south. Once their last
settlement was conquered I began sending
settlers to join the workers and the
army. By then they had cavalry to call on.

Which brings me to the current situation.
The eastern half of the island continent
to my south is settled, and I'm settling
the western half as fast as I can. Then
Roosevelt's galley shows up with a settler
and a long bow. I've been watching him
for a couple of turns, but he hasn't
landed anywhere yet. Maybe my cavalry
is giving the occupants of said vessel
bad dreams. Maybe my frigate and two
galleons have them staring at the line
between sea and sky all day. Wait'll
they get a load of my first destroyer
on the next turn. Roosevelt doesn't
even have astronomy yet. The power
graph shows him about double what I've
got in numbers. I'm beelining to
plastics and haven't researched
rifling yet. But I did get refrigeration,
as my subcontinent is devoid of deer meat.

I wonder if I should try to provoke
roosevelt into declaring on me?

Don't drink that! I peed in it.
