I am using the shuffle map option so that I never know what type of
map I am on and unfortunately my first game of BTS put me on the end
of an island chain with mountains blocking me from expansion so I am a
very small CIV.  I am just getting to cor****ations but so far I keep
popping Great People that cant found any cor****ations.  I am going to
start my next game on either a pangea or continents map so I have more
elbow room to work with.  So the end result is that I am not doing
well in my game but I am still very much enjoying the game.

I enjoy the big and small continents setting, with islands thrown in
(large 
map); the maps are much more fun than anything in previous versions of Civ

IV. As for the AI not getting the same unfair bonuses, that would mean
that 
if you play on a higher difficulty level, then you aren't playing against
an 
AI which simply  cheats but against an AI that is smarter. I like that, 
though I prefer to play on a level where I don't have to tabulate
everything 
all the time, as if I were doing a spreadsheet. Just playing for fun.
  But like many others, I often do not bother to play to the end. Seeing 
what score I'll get simply doesn't interest me that much.
