IIRC, there's a way to hold onto magic for a few seconds if you use a
magic restore item along with a minor glitch. I don't recall the
particulars, but it's not very useful, anyway. I don't think I've ever
beat the arena myself, but I've never really tried in my dozen
play-throughs of CotM. Drac's pretty cool, though. Note that you can
always kill Drac before doing the arena -- your save file won't be erased
or anything. Indeed, after beating Dracula you'll unlock a new way to play
the game (and each time you beat the new mode, you'll unlock another for a
total of five (?) modes in all [Vampire Killer, Magician, Fighter, Thief,
Shooter]).
