I have an on going project to get many multiplayer games (such as
racing games, war strats, session based games) playable in a
centralized chat environment, stats, etc. The project is called GTADS,
which states for (Grand Theft Auto Dedicated Server). Its name comes
from the original game that game was slated for, the old top down gtas
however sup****t is planned to be extended out to various other games.
The project includes a client and a server both written in Java and
will allow players to play p2p through their games. I have come to
mention it on a few groups because I want to gather initial interest in
the project. A lot of the development is done and only a few weeks of
bridging the gameplay together stand between a release.
The client and server are open source and are written in java. You can
