I have been playing BF:2 since it came out. The one thing I'm sure about 
with this game is that the "Server Browser" is ****!

Most people looking for a games server have some things in mind, maps, 
game modes, and stuff but the most im****tant one is the ping.

Each time I look at our server it's at first pinging at several thousand 
then several hundred! who in their right mind would join a server 
pinging like that? Sure enough when I join the server my in-game ping is 
normally between 15 and 25.

There are several alternative ways of finding servers, some web based 
and there are a few programs available. Some time ago I used to use ASE 
(All Seeing Eye) but not recently because I know the IP of our server... 
Another good program is XFire, it doesn't do quite the same thing but 
has taken the buddy list to it's ultimate level. With the possible 
exception of Valve's "Steam" nearly all in game server browsers are 
rubbish...
