Turned out that the problem was due to the bug mentioned in the FAQ
(thanks to CoolDude for that link), whereby if a game is running in
Easy mode, it crashes a few seconds after entering the secret level; I
think somebody must have patched my copy to "fix" this, and
unfortunately the patch also makes the fuse impossible to break.
Solution: Don't use the patch (get an unpatched copy if need be);
instead, play in Normal mode.
