I also had to get a part of my laptop replaced around Christmas time.
Since the laptop is more than a year old and therefore not under
warranty, Dell charged me $24 just to confirm that there was a problem,
and $500 to send me a new screen. They would have charged even more had I
chosen to "let" them install the replacement.
