You can disable the naggy User Account Control crap. Just go Control
Panel
> User Accounts, and look on the left side for "Change User Account
Control
settings"; click that, and turn UAC off. Windows, at least for a while,
will complain that UAC is turned off every time you boot up/log in, but if
you leave the computer on 24/7 like me, that's not a problem.
As for the sidebar, yeah, it's awesome. I personally recommend the
gadgets
"Magic Folder", "MultiMeter" (for dual-core comps; there's a version for
quad-core), and "NetGadget" (although sometimes you have to tweak this one
to get it to work).
