Ah, the difference between real and protected mode kernels. :-/

Of course, there's always booting on a DOS floppy; I understand that
with some effort you can get USB sup****t under MSDOS. I've toyed with
that so that I could breath some life into some old games I used to
enjoy.

Ghost and a spare hard drive work wonders here. :-) One of my Win95
installs "died" a very interesting and horrible death; fortunately I
had ghosted the drive a few hours earlier, so was able to get back
into operation in about 4 minutes. I almost always install my OS to a
small partition, and store my apps and data on another physical drive,
so snafus don't hurt too bad. :-)
