I'm certain you know why those games ran under 98, and not XP, right?
I faced the same with Doom/Descent and others, although I quit gaming
about the time XP hit the shelves. I knew those "extended DOS" games
wouldn't run under the NT kernal.

If you're occasionally stuffing up the OS, perhaps GHOST would be a
decent acquisition? I found it to be rather handy after I transitioned
from OS/2 to (ugh) Blows 95. I found that reimaging my 95 partition
every three months or so made things work much smoother.
