So, in theory, I'm replying to Morten's post about the dragonlance
movie. Fuck...I remember when we were telling people to shut the fuck
up about who they would cast in such a movie (because the odds of
someone giving anyone, let alone them, the millions of dollar
necessary to make such a movie seemed impossibly unlikely).
Anyway, it sounds form Morten's review that this movie isn't really
something that helps the whole dragonlance saga. That's unfortunate.
I guess I should go out and look to try to find that dvd, and see what
I think. Last time I read Dragonlance, I was reading the War of the
Souls stuff, and although I was planning on reading the whole series,
I stopped after the first book. They're all sitting on my shelf (in
hardcover, in case Rohan ever stops by to read this), but the total
shit that was the first book pretty much killed my enthusiasm. Hell,
I even had a detailed post written to detail my disgust (largely
involving the lack of plausibility of elves changing over such a short
timescale, given that those bitches were shown as unable to change
since the cataclysm in chronicles). So yeah, my love for dragonlance
was pretty much taken to the bathtub and drowned a few years back.
In addition, I spent the time since I last spoke earning a doctorate
in astrophysics. That sounds like quite the accomplishment, but it
turns out that just gives you more reasons to drink, and more chance
to avoid growing up.
Even though my old news service has dried up, I've decided that google
was probably good enough to post a quick message. I see that everyone
has long since gone away (such as Forever Darkness. although it looks
like she's probably got a real job and is successful, which I guess is
all we could ever hope for for her). I guess part of what prompted
this is Morten's message that he watched the movie with Larris. Wow.
That really takes me back to the long ago good times.
I guess this is the goodbye that I never really got around to
writing.
Good luck to everyone from the old days, and for anyone who reads this
in the future, I wish you good things as well.
