I enjoyed the first volume, especially since when I first started
reading Winter Night so long ago, I remember thinking "Uh, ok, wait,
what hammer are they talking about?" :)

But I have to admit, there *is* something sort of strange about how
there is suddenly a new story stuck in the middle of what is the core DL
story....but then again, the first volume is justified in that a lot
*did* happen between volumes one and two of the Chronicles, since they
had to get the hammer somehow.

My only gripe might be Sturm's complicity in the plan to trick the
dwarves. Didn't really seem like him.
