I think a leap forward of a hundred to three hundred years would be good. 
The continent is so thoroughly explored by now; there are no mysteries. 
That was one of the things that made the original War of the Lance
timeline 
so interesting, and to a lesser degree the early Fifth Age line (they had 
leapt forward 30 years).

Suppose they left the cliffhanger of AMBER & IRON where it is, then
started 
a new "age" (hang me), by which time all of the known main characters are 
long dead, save maybe Gilthas. Many sorts of things happened in the 
interim, but these are far from common knowledge. The world has changed, 
the pantheon has changed, old cities and temples and wizards' towers have 
fallen into ruin (yay ruins!) and new cities and temples and wizards' 
towers have arisen. So much to explore!

This could be well applied to Dragonlance, in my opinion.

Let new trilogies and modules, of "core" magnitude, be written by Chris 
Pierson and Cam Banks and Stan! Have Jeff Grubb write something--anything!

And, for heaven's sake, don't cut Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman out of 
the loop!

Finally, of course, reverting to the AD&D game as the base mechanic would 
be ideal, to me. Not only is it the game that I personally use, but it is 
also quite naturally the most Dragonlancey game possible (since
Dragonlance 
came out of it)! Regards.
