Eh, heh, that's probably the main reason!
If nothing else, the authors are trying to show just how twisted and
corrupt Senator Rashas and General Konnal's view of the world has become,
when they would rather cooperate with a truly evil Dark Elf, and even
receive him back into the Elven Realm, in order to make ****thios and
Alhana
into "Dark Elf" outcasts due to their good works towards unity and
healing.
Typical Weis and Hickman playing with alignment issues!
And, he DID prevent Tanis from interfering. Regards.
