Ok, pardon my seeming inability to make logical connections to
everything that happens in some of these stories, but I'm a little
confused. What exactly did the senator and the general want from Dalamar
in this story? It *seemed* like, when they spoke to him, that they
wanted him to convince Tanis to allow Gilthas to become the Speaker
(they even say something like "You're his father's friend").
But the next thing you know, Rashas has whisked away Gilthas to
Qualinesti all by himself, and Dalamar seems to be acting *against*
Rashas's plan. So what exactly was the point of Rashas going to see
Dalamar in the beginning of the story? What did he ask of him? It
doesn't seem like Dalamar did anything to help Rashas, and furthermore
it doesn't seem like Rashas really even needed his help.
All I can think of is that the plan was for Dalamar to detain Tanis
while the ceremony took place, and I guess Dalamar "agreed" to that but
then had his own plans in the works. But if that's the case, did they
really need Dalamar to do this for them? Couldn't Rashas just have done
something else to keep Tanis and Laurana away from Qualinesti?
Now, of course, another possibility is simply that Dalamar needed to be
brought into the story somehow, but I sure hope there's more of a reason
than this!
