Is it necessary to read Dragons of a New Age to enjoy War of Souls?

I just finished The Second Generation and I know DoSF is next, but after 
that I'm not really sure if I need to read the 5th Age books or not. 
Some people *really* seem to hate it, but I'm wondering if it's 
necessary to have that story in mind to understand the WoS trilogy.
