It is impossible to answer that question without spoilers. The Fifth
Age is, basically, the setting of Dragonlance as it appears after
Dragons of Summer Flame. War of Souls, set about 30 years or so after
DoSF, is set in the Fifth Age. Answering why so many people hate it
will involve spoilers. Ask again after you've read DoSF.

BTW, I am one of the people who doesn't like the 5A.
