No, it can't be completely ignored, and yes, it involves spoilers for 
Dragons of Summer Flame, War of Souls, and the books that go between. See

Hate is a strong word. I personally love the Fifth Age, I just personally,

erm, "don't care for" the Dragons of a New Age trilogy. Regards.
