Many people say this is a evil act but in my opinion this is more or
less a neutral act rather than evil.
1. There is a significant risk of dying for using the Orb.
->Raistlin would have died if not Fistandantillus saved him in the
library.
->Raistlin said he don't know whether he can use the orb to carry the
whole party, but he wouldn't risk it.
2. They are not really his friends.
->They never have any gratitude when Raistlin saved them for many
times. Everytime Raistlin is exhausted after casting spells. Who care
for him? Only Caramon. Anyone say thanks?
->They never trust him, when there is something goes wrong, they
accuse him, even though it was proven countless of time that Raistlin
is innocent.
>From DoAT:
"Why should I speak?" Raistlin whispered harshly, his voice soft and
lethal
with hatred. "None of you trusts me, so why should you believe me? I
refuse
to answer, and you may think as you choose. If you believe I am a
traitor-
kill me now! I will not stop you-"
->Raistlin is more happy with Strangers than with his companions, what
an irony.
>From DoWN:
"I have been happy" he murmured to himself. "Strange. There have not
been many
times in my life I could make that claim. Certainly not when I was
young, nor
in these past few years, after they tortured my body and cursed me
with these
eyes. But then I never expected happiness. How paltry it is, compared
to my
magic! Still . . . still, these last few weeks have been weeks of
peace. Weeks
of happiness. I don't suppose any will come again. Not after what I
must do-"
To conclude, I don't see the evil for not risking his own life to
*attempt* to save a bunch of people that treat him badly. (maybe not
Caramon, but he did so many thing that irritate Raistlin and that's
another topic)
I can foresee that the group will wipe if Raistlin is kind enough to
use the orb for the whole group.
People get the image of him being evil in DL legends, where he is
really evil.
For me he is a good (but anti-social) in his childhood and not bad in
Chronicles (before using dragon orb).
