The argument being made was the opposite: that the DL stuff was doing so 
well, especially against FR and Eberron, that WotC thought it was 
cutting into their sales.

Never mind the fact that forcing the end of DL gaming is not going to 
turn all those sales for DL into sales for FR and Eberron.

Since none of us are WotC insiders, we cannot say for sure. But I don't 
put anything past cor****ate thinking.
